Plantar Fasciitis Injections

Your feet are a marvel of engineering, but can experience excruciating pain due to plantar fasciitis. This occurs when the tissue connecting your heel bone to toes (plantar fascia) becomes irritated and scarred from things like Achilles tendon stiffness, overactivity, improper shoes, or carrying excess weight on them.

What can you expect from plantar fasciitis injections?

Our providers will inject the plantar fasciitis from its medial side to avoid pain and injury at your heel's fat pad. While lying down on the examining table, a thin needle will be used to carefully inject medication of either steroids and/or numbing medicines into your foot, providing relief where it is most painful. After the procedure is complete, our providers will cover up the injection site.

What does recovery look like?

With the injection, you may experience a numbing effect that will last several hours. When this subsides, your heel pain could return temporarily - but don't worry. The steroid should reduce discomfort over the coming days and weeks to months for longer lasting relief.

To make sure it takes full effect, make sure to stretch your foot, calf, and Achilles tendon when comfortable and avoid heavy activities at first. A removable walking boot can help with decreasing inflammation quickly in more intense cases.
